Spanning from large-scale sculpture and time based installation to event oriented interventions, I temporarily inhabit the exhibition space, integrating within existing structures and create a hidden order within the existing. In what can be described as objects performances without performers, I remove the 'actor' function, deliberately creating a gap with which the viewer can engage, fill or feel.
My works comprise of a wide range of media such as lighting, theatrical effects and sound, translating different visual expressions of belief to clash with contemporary environments within the public domain. Examining generic objects that maintain - or ambiguously maintain - mystical qualities, leading to post-symbolic dark representations of social rituals and traditions. These representations are recognizable, given from the fetishistic artifacts that they are, but one can not know what gave them that stance, or trace the ceremony that made them sacred. The substance is seen, but the content is lost somewhere on the way. This process of passion, ritual and disappointment, is a key element in these installations and audio-visual mechanical performances.
Both cultural and physical engagement take a lead role in my works. The relation between the objects and the viewer's body permits different personal interpretations of historic events and traditions.
Some works are activated directly in the public domain, deliberately creating 'false alarms', aiming also at the eyes of the numerous passerby as well as the exhibition visitors, giving one the choice of discovering - independently - the gap between what exists and it's potential.
Other works are in relation to the public domain, creating representation of intimate moments in public. The mechanism is hidden but still easily exposed, illuminating the singular moment of confrontation.
These days, I am working on 'Seven Days', an audio-visual performance piece following the events of the seven days of the jewish creation story, over the course of an actual week. Continuing on the path of collaboration, I create the space, objects and all other visual aspects such as lighting and the performers outfits. The original musical score is composed by musician Maya Dunietz and the performers are a part of theater director Ariel Efraim Ashbel's company, AKA Performance Squad.
