We are surrounded—in private and in public—by powerful artificial illumination that influences our state of wakefulness and daily lives. Whether through giant LED screens for advertising or simply poor street lighting, we are more often overwhelmed without even noticing it. This ongoing series of night walks, conducted on occasion through various institutions in different urban areas, highlights the under-discussed and under-valued subject of high-intensity illumination. High-intensity illumination can cause, among many other long-term impacts, sleep deprivation for humans, a loss of sense of direction for animals, and exhaustion for plants. Through immersive nocturnal walks, often intertwined with artistic interventions, I aim at rewiring night vision. Focused on recovering sensory sensitivity, I promote practicing darkness while dissolving fear of darkness.
